Detect oral cancer in its early stages.
If you are a user of alcohol, tobacco, or other nicotine products, you probably already know that they aren’t good for your oral health. The last thing you want is to hear another lecture about kicking the habit. Well, when you visit our office, we are not here to guilt-trip you. We’re here to help! And part of that process includes providing an oral cancer screening, especially if you’re at high risk.
Oral cancer is a relatively common form of the disease. Each year, there are over 50,000 new cases in the US. One of the challenges in combating oral cancer is that it can be difficult to diagnose in its early stages. That’s because there may be no pain or other identifying symptoms, and any visual change occurring in the mouth is often minor. So be sure to request an oral cancer screening, and take charge of your own oral health with at-home self-examination.
Self-examination
The key to successfully treating and beating oral cancer is early detection. You may notice when something doesn’t feel right within your mouth, but you may not always take the time to inspect it visually. Aside from brushing your teeth in the mirror, you probably don’t spend too much time looking into your mouth. So use this opportunity to perform a quick self-examination. Take note of the appearance of all the soft tissues, pallet, tongue, and beneath the tongue as well! Look for any unusual lumps or bumps, injuries or lesions that you cannot explain, or any sores that’s don’t seem to heal in a timely manner.
If you see any abnormality in your mouth, please don’t hesitate to contact us with your concern.
