Options For Straight Teeth
Most people don’t have perfectly straight teeth. Common problems may include some level of overcrowding, gaps, or various combinations of misalignment. Those that do have straight teeth are either genetically blessed or (more likely) have probably undergone orthodontic treatment. Most individuals begin treatment in childhood or during their teenage years, but it continues to be an option for adults as well. Is treatment necessary?
Frequently, alignment problems are merely a cosmetic preference and don’t necessarily require treatment. However, we understand that most people desire to have straight teeth and seek treatment options. These may include traditional metal braces, as well as clear aligners. Other times, there are significant reasons to correct a crooked bite. These include malocclusions such as underbite, overbite, crossbite, and more.
Braces
Metal Braces are the tried and true method for getting straight teeth. Each tooth receives a metal bracket, which is all connected by an archwire. Over the course of treatment, teeth gradually shift into place to achieve perfect alignment.
Aligners for straight teeth
Clear aligners are a sturdy acrylic plastic material molded to precisely fit your teeth. Teeth move gradually into place using a series of these aligners. Many people prefer clear aligners because… they are clear, of course! So they are much less noticeable. Additionally, aligners are removable and thereby much more convenient for eating and brushing.
Only a consultation with a dentist can determine which option is best for you or your child (or if a referral to an orthodontist is required). So please don’t hesitate to contact us for an appointment!
