If you’re unhappy with your smile, the best thing you can do is schedule a consultation. There, we can provide an examination and review all your options. If you’re looking for significant changes, there’s plenty of treatments for receiving a complete “smile makeover.” Other times, you might just have a few minor problems that you want to address. In those instances, cosmetic bonding might be suitable for you!
Cosmetic bonding, or just “dental bonding,” is a tooth-colored composite resin. It’s a very versatile treatment option that we can use to address minor imperfections in your smile, as well as more extensive fixes.
If you have a chipped tooth or minor crack in an otherwise healthy tooth, we may opt for bonding rather than a veneer or porcelain dental crown. This way, we can conserve more of your natural tooth structure, very helpful if further treatment is ever necessary. (Hopefully, not till many years in the future!)
To apply the bonding, we first prepare the area for treatment. This preparation might mean removing any decayed or failing part of the tooth. Furthermore, we may “score” the tooth surface to allow a more secure bond. Then, we simply place the bonding material onto the tooth and harden it with a special light. More extensive restorations are applied in several layers to make sure the curing process is even and complete.
Especially for the easily visible teeth in the front of your mouth, we can use cosmetic bonding to hide all sorts of imperfections and even reshape the appearance of problem teeth. Contact us today for more information!
